Hi there!
I’m Bailey, a writer and a California girl.
There are many things in this life I’m passionate about, but what’s closest to my heart is the intersection of writing, embodiment, and spiritual formation.
Wrestling with chronic pain from an early age, I decided to study massage therapy as a way to better understand the complexity of the human body—and maybe find some healing along the way. I also have a mood disorder and other kinds of physiological disfunction* that challenge everyday tasks and relationships. What I didn’t expect to learn in my personal health journey was just how tied our bodies are to what we believe about God.
All this was a catalyst that thrust me deep into a dark night of the soul and deep into the heart of Christ. Through emotionally honest storytelling, my goal is to press into hard truths and, as someone once told me, give you permission to acknowledge the presence of God in the places that feel like mystery.
Although God often does not feel present in our pain, I have learned that it’s usually in the dark that I can most receive comfort from the Light. For years, I’ve been saying that wholeness is a journey, yet I’m always surprised by how complex and persistent a journey it truly is. It’s one that requires faithfulness, the company of good friends, plenty of self care, and a fierce commitment to hope—perhaps what can even feels like foolish hope. But I believe author and pastor Frederick Buechner when he said this:
“It is a world of magic and mystery, of deep darkness and flickering starlight. It is a world where terrible things happen and wonderful things too. It is a world where goodness is pitted against evil, love against hate, order against chaos, in a great struggle where often it is hard to be sure who belongs to which side because appearances are endlessly deceptive. Yet for all its confusion and wildness, it is a world where the battle goes ultimately to the good, who live happily ever after, and where in the long run everybody, good and evil alike, becomes known by his true name… That is the fairy tale of the Gospel with, of course, one crucial difference from all other fairy tales, which is that the claim made for it is that it is true.” —Telling the Truth: The Gospel as Tragedy, Comedy, and Fairy Tale

All the love,
